about

Ridgewood, New Jersey native Evan Brody created Family Portrait in the spring of 2009. With Brody singing and playing guitar, Mike Mimoun on drums, Ari Stern at keyboard and Sawyer Carter Jacobs on bass, they threw house parties and played all the time.

The boys then ventured to the home of Liquor Store frontman Sarim Al-rawi, also known as Hey Buddy HQ Studios in Glen Rock. There the band recorded a few tracks for a split 7" with Andrew Cedermark. One of which, "Mega Secrets," graced Gorilla vs. Bear's top twenty songs of 2009 list.

The music of Family Portrait has evolved past it's sweaty, beer soaked origins. Produced by best friends Evan Brody and Julian Lynch, mixed by Sam Franklin (Big Troubles, Fluffy Lumbers) and recorded at Brody's family home, the first Family Portrait LP is intricate, intimate and lingering pop music. The album features cameos from Emilie Friedlander (La Big Vic) on violin and back up vocals and Jackson Pollis (Dream Band, Real Estate) on drums.

Underwater Peoples is proud to be releasing such a personal, yet wholly communal endeavor.
